On Thursday January 11th, Father Daniel Chowning, IV Definitor of our Discalced Carmelite Order, will be visiting our small province here in Malta. The purpose of such visits from our superiors is to promote communion and encourage us in our life and work here in Malta.
During his six-day fraternal visit, Father Daniel will tour our four convents (Cospicua, B’kara, Tas-Silg and Ta’ Xbiex) and also our two female cloistered monasteries (Santa Margerita, Bormla and Our Lady Mother Of God Monastery at Tal Virtú).
Father Daniel hails from Indiana, USA. He did his theological studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He is very active in retreat ministry, and spiritual direction. He is also a member of the Institute of Carmelite Studies of the Washington Province.
He is the English speaking Definitor for the United States, the Anglo-Irish Province, Malta, Holland, and the French speaking Definitor for the two French provinces (Paris and Avignon-Aquitaine), Belgium (Flemish province) and their mission houses in Switzerland, Sweden, Québec, and Senegal, Africa.
In addition, he is the Definitor assigned to assist the Discalced Carmelite nuns.
