This may be old ‘news’. But it is worth recording here the passing away of Father Federico Ruiz in the early morning of November 16. For these last years he was afflicted with Alzheimers.
Born in Cozuelos de Ojeda, a village in the Province of Palencia in Spain on December 24, 1933, Father Federico made his religious profession as a Discalced Carmelite on July 31, 1950 and was ordained a priest on October 27, 1957.
He was an eminent specialist in Spiritual Theology and, in a particular way, an incomparable specialist in the doctrine and message of Saint John of the Cross.
On the occasion of the IV Centenary of the death of Saint John of the Cross, Father Federico Ruiz was invited to visit our islands to give various lectures to spread the unique message of this mystic. He gave a lecture also at the University of Malta.
His funeral took place on November 17 in Madrid. We just want to quote these words from the homily of the Provincial Fr. Miguel Marquez: “We entrust Federico to the wounded open heart of the Shepherd. From the other shore, may he enlighten us and makes us sensible in what matters most, and leads us to union with Him and to communion amongst ourselves.”
