The Provincial Chapter of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers, known as ‘It-Terezjani’ was held towards the end of April. This one week long meeting between all the religious present in Malta is an intense moment of fraternity amongst the brothers. New superiors for their houses were duly elected and ample discussion was held on the main issues that they are facing in society today.

The Discalced Carmelites in Malta are rejoicing that one of the five Cardinals created by Pope Francis on June 28th belongs to their religious family. In fact Bishop Anders Arborelius, OCD of Stockholm Sweden is a Discalced Carmelite. The writings of St Therese of the Child Jesus moved him to join the “Terezjani” as they are known in Malta.

As of August 28th till September 2nd the Discalced Carmelite students from Europe will be meeting in Malta at the Archdiocese Seminary, Tal-Virtu'. The theme of this meeting will be the missionary calling of Carmel. The Superior General, Fr. Saverio Cannistra', will be attending and addressing the assembly, among other local and foreign speakers. During the event, 85 participants will be attending.
