The Paraguay postal service will offer a special issue series of stamps to celebrate the beatification of Sr. Maria Felicia of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, better known as “Chiquitunga”, who will be beatified 23 June in Asunción, Paraguay. The sheet of stamps features a photo of Chiquitunga; her signature; it is framed by jasmine flowers, which were María Felicia’s favorites; and besides the logo of the beatification, it will have Chiquitunga’s motto: “I offer you everything, Lord”. No word yet on when the stamps will be available to collectors.
María Guggiari Echeverría (12 January 1925 – 28 April 1959) – in religion María Felicia de Jesús Sacramentado – was a Paraguayan professed religious from the Discalced Carmelite Order. Echeverría entered the order despite the opposition of her parents and was a close friend of Saua Angel – a friend from Catholic Action who became a priest.
Guggiari Echeverría’s cause for sainthood commenced under Pope John Paul II in 1997 after being titled as a Servant of God and the confirmation of her heroic virtue led to Pope Benedict XVI conferring the title of Venerable on 27 March 2010. Pope Francis confirmed her beatification and it shall be celebrated very soon on 23 June 2018.. More to follow.
