On May 10th, 2019 our Discalced Carmelite Fathers celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their parish ‘Saint John of the Cross’ at Ta’ Xbiex feting a musico-literrary soirée.
During this beautiful occasion they highlighted the main benefactor of their parish – the Baron Pietro Paolo Testaferrata Moroni Viani, who not only generously donated the land on which the Church and the convent were erected but was also very generous in donating much of the necessary funds for this enterprise in its arly stages.
The music was skillfully conducted by the Gozitan choir Laudate Pueri of Saint George Basilica in Rabat Gozo under the direction of Father George Frendo.
The main speeches were expertly delivered by Mr. Salvatore Mousu and Rev. Father Martin Borg OCD. They traced the history of the parish and the life of Baron Testaferrata.
The compère was Mr. George Peresso and he read one of his poems
entitled ‘Il-Lejl Mudlam’,
However before the end, the grandson of Baron Pieto Paolo, the Baron Chris Testaferrata Moroni Viani unveiled a commemorative plaque that was blessed by Father Adrian Attard OCD, the Vicar Provincial of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers in Malta.
The parish priest Father Salvinu Spagnol OCD and the Major Mr. Max Zammit concluded the soirée.
It was a very succesful evening and the
attendance was very good.
